Functional Information

Attaches the virion to the host cell membrane by interacting with glycosaminoglycans, initiating the infection. Unlike other paramyxovirus attachment proteins, lacks both neuraminidase and hemagglutinating activities. In addition to its role in attachment, glycoprotein G interacts with host RIGI and inhibits RIGI-mediated signaling pathway in order to prevent the establishment of the antiviral state. Glycosylation at Asparagine = N52.

Interactions

Homooligomer. Interacts (via N-terminus) with protein M. Interacts with protein F; this interaction occurs on the surface of infected cells. Interacts with protein SH (By similarity). Interacts with host RIGI; this interaction inhibits host immune response

Domains Orgainzation

  • 1-30 Intravirion
  • 31-51 Helical
  • 58-219 virion surface (disordered)
